ANXIETY THERAPY FOR WOMEN IN ILLINOIS

Your anxiety isn’t in your head. It’s in your whole body.

Nervous-system therapy for the woman whose mind and body won’t switch off.

You’ve been told to relax more times than you can count, and if that worked, you’d have relaxed by now. Together, we’ll look at what’s keeping your nervous system on high alert and find practical ways to help you feel more grounded, even when life gets overwhelming.

When “just calm down” has never once worked

Your anxiety doesn’t always look like anxiety. Sometimes it looks like lying awake at 2 a.m. running through a conversation from four years ago. Sometimes it’s a mind that will not slow down, jumping tab to tab, unable to land. Sometimes it’s a body that feels wired and exhausted at the exact same time.

You feel everything intensely, and you always have. You’ve probably been called dramatic, or sensitive, or “too much” for as long as you can remember. So you’ve worked hard to keep it contained, to seem fine, to manage how it all lands for everyone around you. That containment is its own kind of exhausting.

Here’s what most people never get told: this isn’t a willpower problem, and you’re not broken. Your nervous system is stuck in a setting that made sense once, and it can learn a new one.

What we work on together

Tools for the moment it’s actually happening

Insight is helpful, but understanding why you're anxious doesn't always make the feeling go away. I teach practical, body-based tools that help you recognize when your nervous system is becoming overwhelmed and respond in ways that help you feel more grounded. The goal is to give you something you can actually use when anxiety shows up, not just something that makes sense during our sessions.

A mind that finally slows down

If your brain runs fast and loud and rarely lets you rest, we work on helping it settle. Some of the somatic and Reiki work moves you toward the drifting, half-asleep state your mind reaches right before sleep, the one full of images and quiet, where your system actually gets to downshift. Anxiety and a busy mind feed each other, and calming one calms the other.

Being met exactly as you’re wired

There’s no script here for how you’re supposed to feel or function. We build regulation strategies around how your mind and body actually work, not how a calmer person’s might. You get to stop fighting your own wiring and start working with it.

A GROUNDED APPROACH TO ANXIETY

How I work

When we work on anxiety, we look at more than just your thoughts. We pay attention to how your nervous system responds to stress, what keeps it on high alert, and what helps it settle.

I use a combination of ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), mindfulness, and body-based tools to help you understand what's happening and respond differently. Depending on what feels comfortable for you, we may also incorporate Reiki or other creative approaches. Everything is optional, and we'll always talk through what makes sense for you.

The goal is to help you feel more at ease in your own mind and body, with practical strategies you can carry into everyday life.

WHEN ANXIETY MAKES YOU SECOND-GUESS YOURSELF

Even asking for help can make you anxious

You'd think that when you're tired of feeling anxious, getting help would be an easy decision. But anxiety has a funny way of talking you out of the very things that might help.

Maybe you've looked into therapy before, only to convince yourself you don't really need it. Or you've wondered whether talking about everything will just make you feel worse. Maybe you've even thought, What if I'm just like this forever?

That's the frustrating thing about anxiety. It can make staying exactly where you are feel safer than doing something different, even when you're exhausted by how things have been going.

You don't have to know whether therapy is going to work before you reach out. You don't even have to be sure you're ready. We can start with a conversation, talk through whatever's making you hesitant, and figure out together whether this feels like a good next step.
